Remote Advanced Formative Courses on Critical Care for CBH Staff

In March 2020, a series of lectures carried out by Italian specialists in critical care from the renowned Agostino Gemelli University Polyclinic in Rome was started at Caritas Baby Hospital (CBH). Doctors and nurses of CBH could advance their knowledge for their work at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and exchange experience with the Italian specialists. Up until 21 April, eight online sessions have taken place. During the training, the participants had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge on topics such as acute respiratory failure after the neonatal age, cardiac arrest and cardiopulmonary resuscitation as well as non-invasive ventilation.

While traveling is restricted due to the coronavirus pandemic, theoretical formative courses will continue to be given remotely on a weekly basis. The Italian specialists will give CBH’s intensive care nurses and doctors practical simulation sessions at CBH once the restrictions to movement are lifted.

The development of the specialized ICU services is part of CBH’s strategic objectives 2018-2023 as there is a lack of these services in Palestine. The training agreement that was concluded between the Agostino Gemelli University Clinic and CBH in 2019 contributes significantly to the improvement of CBH’s intensive care offer. CBH’s Nursing Director, Sister Lucia Corradin, praised the collaboration: “The bridge between Italian doctors and our staff is a concrete sign of solidarity. Both sides will surely benefit from the exchange of knowledge and experience.”
