The Palestinian Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that Caritas Baby Hospital has achieved a distinguished medical and administrative milestone by attaining Level 4 in the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative (PSFHI). This is the highest level of the PSFHI accreditation awarded by the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the MOH to healthcare institutions that adopt rigorous standards in quality of care and patient safety.
This achievement follows a comprehensive and thorough evaluation process that took place between April 27 and 28, 2026, overseen by a delegation from the Quality and Patient Safety Unit of the Palestinian Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, headed by Dr. Abed Alraoaf Saleem and Ms. Khadija Abu Khader.
The evaluation included an examination of clinical and administrative policies, risk management systems, patient engagement procedures, and a review of patient safety and infection control measures. The significance of achieving Level 4 lies in affirming that Caritas Baby Hospital is committed to minimizing medical errors by implementing international protocols that ensure the lowest possible levels of medical and pharmaceutical risks, and by developing its infrastructure and technology to guarantee a safe and infection-free hospital environment.
Level 4 also reflects the hospital's success in building a management system that prioritizes patient safety and strengthens the partnership with patients by empowering them and their families to understand their rights and actively participate in treatment decisions.
On behalf of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Dr. Abed Alraoaf Saleem commended the efforts of the administration and staff of Caritas Baby Hospital, stating: “This success serves as a model to be emulated in the Ministry's efforts to develop all Palestinian hospitals to reach this level of quality, thereby enhancing public trust in the national healthcare system”"
For his part, Issa Bandak, Chief Executive Officer of Caritas Baby Hospital, expressed his pride in this achievement, emphasizing: “Achieving Level 4 is not merely a certificate, but rather the culmination of a daily work culture adopted by the hospital staff to ensure the provision of safe, dignified, and world-class healthcare”.
Caritas Baby Hospital has adopted the “Patient Safety Friendly Hospital” initiative since 2013 to promote the quality of health services, patient safety, and infection control, with the aim of transforming it into a safe and highly efficient hospital.
