Purpose

Background

Established in 1963, Children’s Relief Bethlehem (CRB) is a Christian relief agency whose work is based on the legacy of its founder, Father Ernst Schnydrig. The Swiss NGO is based in Lucerne and is running Caritas Baby Hospital. The core identity of CRB builds on respecting the dignity of each and every human being. CRB therefore focuses its attention on individuals at the margins of society and human existence.

CRB covers two thirds of Caritas Baby Hospital's annual budget is based on donations from Switzerland Germany, Italy and Austria.

In the scope of its financial means, CRB also supports projects for mothers and children in Bethlehem and the neighbouring region, particularly in Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria, and provides emergency relief. 
 

Guiding Principles

The work of CRB is based on the following principles:

  1. Support is provided mainly to the poor and to marginalized persons, irrespective of origin, gender or religion.
  2. Collaboration with local partners is based on trust and aims to strengthen their ability to operate independently and to support local ownership.
  3. The work of CRB contributes to sustainably improving the social situation and health of children and adolescents and their families.
