Yazan's Experience with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MISC)

The twelve years old Yazan suffered from severe headache, abdominal pain, and prolonged fever. His parents consulted various medical centers without an accurate diagnosis for his condition.

After admitting him to Caritas Baby Hospital (CBH) and carrying out the necessary tests, it was found that the child's blood contains antibodies to the Coronavirus. This indicated to the medical staff that Yazan had Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) resulting from a severe immune reaction associated with COVID-19.

The uncommon but serious syndrome is associated with severe inflammation in some parts of the body, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs.

In the intensive care unit at CBH, our staff provided the appropriate treatment to reduce inflammation in the affected vital organs to prevent permanent damage. The treatment for this illness depends mainly on the type and severity of symptoms, and which organs and other parts of the body are infected.

Yazan returned home after ten days of treatment in CBH. His condition called for a follow-up with the pediatric cardiologist and rheumatologist who both confirmed the success of the treatment and good health of the child.
