Patient Rights and Responsibilities

Patients and their families have the following rights:

Access to quality treatment and safety in healthcare: 

  • To request and receive appropriate medical treatment and services within the organization’s capacity and mission.

Respect and dignity to all patients: 

  • To receive care that is respectful of patients’ cultural, spiritual, and social values. 
  • To receive care that is respectful of patients’ privacy, safety, and comfort with consideration to pain management.

Privacy and confidentiality:

  • To ensure that medical and personal information are always handled in a confidential manner throughout the treatment process.
  • To ensure that all information - diagnosis, prognosis and any other relevant information of personal nature- are treated in accordance with confidentiality regulations, even in cases of fatality.
  • To disclose confidential information upon consent from interested parties, or based on a legal warrant

Identity:

  • To know the identity and professional status of individuals providing care to patients through a visible employee ID badge.

Consent:

  • To be involved in the planning process of patient care and to be aware available options for treatment prior to giving or withholding consent.

Suggestions and Complaints: 

  • You have the right to submit any concerns, suggestions or complaints through the suggestions and complaints box found in different areas of the hospital.

Patients and their families have the following responsibilities:

  • To provide, to the best of their knowledge, accurate and complete information about current complaints, past illnesses, hospitalizations, medications, allergies and other matters relating to their health.
  • To consider also the needs of other patients, staff, and the hospital by: 
    • Ensuring roommate privacy.
    • Limiting visitors to two at a time during visiting hours and complying with regulations that forbid children to visit. 
    • Respecting the peace and quiet of hospital spaces. 
    • Respecting rules against smoking, unless it occurs in the designated area below the tent near the in-patient entrance. 
    • Using televisions, radios, telephones (outside the in-patient wards) and lights in a manner that is not disturbing to others.
  • To comply with the hospital’s safety regulations and all other rules and regulations including smoking in the designated area only. 
  • To respect the rights of the institution and its employees, and to take good care of equipment, furniture, linen, materials, patients’ toys and clothes, environment etc. 
  • To leave the hospital after finalizing the treatment and being discharged.
